Lesson 4: Creating Patterns
Contents:
In this lesson we will learn about how to create basic patterns and what effect they can have on music!
Children will show their creativity in this lesson!
Preparation:
3 different percussion instruments or surfaces
(E.g. buckets with sticks or even body percussion)
Content 1: What are patterns?
Patterns can be created by repeating certain sounds in a specific order. All around us there are patterns that one can spot! Like the colorful petals of a flower!
Exercise 1: Let's work together!
(Have everyone in the class stand/sit in a circle)
Play the clip attached below for the children and let one learner start with a basic rhythm on the song.
Then take turns going clockwise while everyone adds their own rhythm until everyone makes a sound together! (Try to use as many mediums as possible to make sounds!)
Exercise 2: Umzi Watcha!
Do you remember the song from the previous lesson? Umzi Watcha!
In this lesson we're going to try adding simple rhythmic patterns!
(Children can stay in the same format, but learners will only add their own pattern one at a time.)
Please remember to take a video of the children and send it to us! See more instructions under "Music Lessons"!
