Lesson 2: Application of rhythms!
Lesson 2: Let's search for rhythms!
Concepts: Apply 2-, 3-, and 4-time to songs.
Preparation:
You need internet access so that you can use YouTube.
You can preload the links in advance if necessary.
You need large, empty drums or buckets.
If you don't have buckets available, use a table or body percussion.
Introduction:
You will remember that last week we learned the basic rhythms of music. Today, we will explore in which songs these rhythms can be found.
Exercise 1:
You will recall that last week you marched like soldiers in two-time. Two-time is also used in writing some songs. Let's listen to "Twinkle-Twinkle Little Star." Clap along with the rhythm in two-time.
Exercise 2:
Do you all remember that you waltzed last week? The waltz was 3 time, and now we are going to clap along to the song Beauty and the Beast
Exercise 3:
Let's now play 'Father Jacob,' the song we listened to last week, on the drums so that the old uncles can wake up. The song is counted in sets of 4, and you will play the rhythm on the drums. One beat is equivalent to one count.
